Abuse of Power
s/t (demo)
June 2001
Released: n/a, Independent Rating: 3.0/5 Reviewer: Joe Hailing from Victoria, B.C., Abuse of Power play what I can only describe as "College Metal". Traditional Metal influences can be easily heard in their music, but it also has a pseudo-alternative/funky sound and just oozes "party vibes"... I don’t know how else to describe it as it’s pretty unique to my ears. The only place I’ve heard anything remotely similar sounding is on college radio, hence the label... Anyway, the six track demo begins with "Feels Like War", which seems to be an ironic title given the song’s happy/funky groove. "Abuse of Power" is probably the most "pure" Metal song on the CD with riffing that’s somewhat reminiscent of Sacred Reich, but without gruff vocals a la Phil Rind. The other tracks are in much the same vein as the first two, helping give Abuse of Power a reasonably focused sound. I must also mention that for a demo, the production is quite good. You can still tell that it’s a demo, but the sound quality is crisp and clear. Anyway, if upbeat, pseudo-funky Metal piques your interest, check the band out at http://www.abuseofpowerrocks.com Not exactly my cup o’tea, but there’s no denying the knack Abuse of Power obviously have for the style of music they play.
