Magic Chaos Psychedelia
February 2013
Released: 2013, Pulverised Records
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: UK Team

Enshadowed appeared back in 1998 and since then have only released two full-length albums and many split releases. They have performed with bands like Mayhem, Dodheimsgard, Impaled Nazarene, Dark Funeral, Belphegor, Arkhon Infaustus and many underground bands, so I was looking forward to hearing this release…we’ve waited long enough!

Despite it being 9 years since Enshadowed have released anything, it’s clear from the opening of ‘Magic Chaos Psychedelia’ the band have made a brilliant come back! This is definitely a great way to start the new year…filled with the essence of Brutal Black Metal! And this album is filled with treachery and Greek Blackened sounds!

Every track on this album is an abyss of religious anti-establishment with total hateful and nihilistic intent, which is everything that I love. It does have more of a modern sound, with great production, intense drumming and some great melodies with some Death elements to it, which will appeal to other metallers who aren’t keen on the old traditional sounds of Black Metal, but the furiousness of this album should appeal to most to be honest.

The album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Devasoundz Studio by Septicflesh skinsman Fotis Bernado and Enshadowed, together with the album cover artwork weaved by Greek artist Rea Pediaditaki, including additional hand-made paintings by Miguel Angel Castro Salinas.

There are some tracks that stand out more than others, but every track is purely brutal and the album just seems to improve with every track. The ending tracks do slow down giving it a Doom Metal feel, adding some female vocals and ambient feel, which is a perfect way to end off this album, with me wanting to press play again immediately as it came to an end!

This is certainly an album that is filled with intense atmosphere and needs to be heard & I hope we don’t have to wait another 9 years for another release like this!
