The World As We Love It
Released: 2011, Armoury Records
Reviewer: Celtic Bob
Russia’s premier Rock band: Pushking make their way to North America with THE WORLD AS WE LOVE IT. This release is re-recordings of previous Pushking songs but this time with star studded guests. Virtually unknown on this side of the Atlantic despite having been on the go for the past 15 years. This will change with this release.
On THE WORLD AS WE LOVE IT there is a good mix of Rockers and Ballads and some mid-tempo tracks as well. The disc begins with a pair of tracks featuring ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons on vocals. The first one; “Nightrider” is the more upbeat one of the two but it’s the slower, mid-tempo song “It’ll Be OK” that really grabs you. It features some great guitar by Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) making for one of the discs highlights. Next up is “Troubled Love” that features Alice Cooper handling the vocal duties accompanied by Keri Kelli on guitar. Alice and Keri really make this song come off as though it was an Alice original. It has that classic Coop feel to it. Next up is “Stranger’s Song” which also has that classic Cooper feel to it but sadly Alice is not on it. Ex-Uriah Heep vocalist John Lawton handles the vocals for this one. Lawton does a good job but the song would be better suited to Alice.
Other songs that stand out are “Cut To The Wire” with Paul Stanley (Kiss) on vocals, “Open Letter To God” with Eric Martin (Mr.Big) on vocals and “Natures Child” featuring ex-Accept vocalist Udo Dirkschneider. These unique and distinct vocal talents help make their tracks stand out amongst the rest. The disc ends off with “Kukarracha” which is a star studded vocal event featuring the likes of Joe Lynn Turner, Eric Martin, Paul Stanley and more. An excellent ending to an interesting collection of songs.
Interesting and diverse are the 2 terms that come to mind when reflecting on the music on THE WORLD AS WE LOVE IT. It is enjoyable to listen to and some songs are much more enjoyable then the others.
