Widowmaker
Widowmaker

Released: 2017, Sharptone Records
Rating: 4.0/5

Primarily, Deathcore has been a huge phenomenon state side and gained a massive audience in America and Widowmaker's label, Sharptone has built up a reputation of having some of the best and most popular bands like Whitechapel, Carnifex and Fallujah. Having recently signed onto the label and changed their name it seems Widowmaker have landed in exactly where they should be.

Their 7 track self titled album has some high production going on throughout with some interesting guitar elements and some fast passed brutal vocals and drums through out. Honestly, Deathcore has never been my thing and over in the UK we kinda laughed at it as Americans playing at making metal. I'm not sure we totally understand the sub genre and I was prepared to not like this album even before I heard it. I was pleasantly surprised I have to say. It's a damn fine album that doesn't hang about, 25 minutes and change. From the fast tempo opening track The Nihilist, Widowmaker declare that they mean business. Its by far the heaviest track on the album but the best tracks for me are the slower and more interesting tracks in my view such as Spineless and Dissonance that really intrigue me and endure them to me. They remind me somewhat of Meshuggah in sound which is no bad thing. They bring some great energy to their music and I love the fact that the album doesn't hang on to long. It's short but it is definitely sweet.
