Endemise are a symphonic black/death metal band hailing from Ottawa, Canada. Formed in 2005, they blend orchestral grandeur with the brutality of metal and their latest release ‘Anathema’ promises to deliver more of that.
Atmospheric sounds open the album before it drops into some heavy guitar work which is backed up nicely with some quality orchestral sounds. There is a good balance between the symphonic and metal elements throughout, with the former having a crisp, high-quality feel to them and the latter possessing a nice weighty chug – the mixing and mastering is done very well. The pace throughout the album is varied, and melodic sections are combined well with the more brutal side of blackened death. A range of different guitar styles are also heard throughout, giving things a bit of variation.
Overall, a nice listen with a good range of well-balanced elements.
