Pandemoniums Ocean
January 2018
Released: 2017, Black Market Metal
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: UK Team

After a slew of ice cold EPs Xaemora unleash upon us their debut full length. A grim and pitiless affair, it blasts and tears and leaves you a gibbering wreck on the floor.

The Album begins with "Beneath Frozen Tombs", a gnarly, keyboard swathed maelstrom, hampered somewhat by its stop-start approach which makes it seem a little disjointed. A solid yet unremarkable beginning. Next up is "MSB", a grinding, punishing cataclysm, and is more atmospheric than the previous track. Following this is the charmingly titled "Wrist Slitter" - every bit is as downcast and brooding as the title suggests. It is also heavier than a Wookiee's dinner plate, and benefits from a slower, less chaotic structure.

The title track is an old school Thrash standard set to a backdrop of cinematic keyboards, and is almost majestic in places. The same can also be said for "Lament". "Elegy", on the other hand is a lead guita led sojourn. The riffing, when it speeds up is quite spacey (not Kevin). Elegant stuff. Proceedings are rounded off with "Altars", a rumbling, bitter tune augmented by some delightfully NOBHM lead guitar.

This is quite a varied album. At first it fools the listerner into thinking it is going to be a yawnsome speed fest, but it actually turns out to be pretty varied, with some inspired keyboards and lead guitar. Very nearly very good.
