Dream Evil
July 2017
Released: 2017, Century Media
Rating: 3.0/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

The sixth album by Dream Evil is aptly titled, SIX. That works for me. What once was a super group when first incarnated by super producer Fredrik Nordstrom, Dream Evil have proven that they are not a novelty and they mean business.

I have been trying to wrap myself around this one for several listens now. It is a descent set of songs that run the usual Dream Evil architecture, but for some reason, I cannot actually get a grasp on it. They run the straight and narrow course of well-structured yet safe sounding Euro-power metal. Albeit, each good on their own, together almost a bit too much. I was looking forward to SIX for some time now. Yet the hiatus they took didn’t seem to change much. SIX is an enjoyable listen but not as memorable as one may hope. I’m certain fans will be pleased. It is new music by the band. As far as recommending to new listeners, hmmm, I guess I recommend not letting SIX be your only determination of Dream Evil. Head back to some of their other releases.

With that being said, fans of Hammerfall, Firewind, Sabaton will enjoy Dream Evil if not already. SIX is a good one for the mix.
