Well, cover art is important and tells a lot about the band, and it is an essential part of the album. Entrapment from the Netherlands made a good job with their cover of their new album "Through Realms Unseen". I mean what else do you want on the front of a death metal album if not a rotting corpse? Anyway, it is a nice cover and the texture and colours remind me of the art of Zdzisław Beksiński. The logo... it is a typical death logo with an inverted cross. Seriously, if you like this kind of stuff what else do you need? Do I have to mention the label? Fine. Pulverised Records. The Singapore-based label stands for quality black/death/thrash metal from all over the world (but mostly from Sweden).
So the first song on the album - "Omission" - nearly scared the shit out of me and not in a positive way. From everything I said above, I thought that the opener was going to rip my face off but it didn't. I thought that if the whole album's going to be like this then I might be unable to listen to it. The song is melodic and I waited for something putrid.
The second track called "The Seeker" is a bit better, but still not death metal. I mean the vocals and the whole sound is death metal, but the song itself just not. And the rest of the tracks are the same to be honest. I don't know if there are any proper death riffs on "Through Realms Unseen". It made me confused. And it is because it sounds like death metal, but it's not death metal, and I can't or don't want to compare it to "Wolverine Blues".
The only song that I really enjoyed was "Discardant Response": it reminded me of At The Gates. "Self Inflicted Malnutrition" is a catchy one too.
The guys are technical (although if someone says "death" in genre I want much more from the drummer) and the album sounds okay but this is not for me.
Maybe this effort is not that bad but I was super excited 'cause of the artwork, the label and Entrapment's previous album. And compared to "Lamentations Of The Flesh" this is a step in the wrong direction in my opinion. I am still confused about it.
