Metallica (Book Review)
Released: 2013, Guitar World
Back in February of 2014, I published a review of a Guitar World publication called Metallica. I ended my review with this exact quote. "There is another title also called GUITAR WORLD PRESENTS METALLICA published in late 2013, which has the subtitle of ’30 Years Of The World’s Greatest Heavy Metal Band’. This newer version is an expanded edition of the 2010 version, in more of a collectible magazine style with lots of photos and about a dozen of the fifteen articles/interviews in the 2010 version are reprinted again. Choose wisely." I recently found the updated version (at a very inexpensive price!) so for the sake of completion I am quickly reviewing this updated version. You may want to read my full review of the earlier version of this same book.
This magazine version, although updated, seems somehow slightly inferior to an actual book. This is one of those sort of heavy-duty, but glossy magazine books that you see by Time Life at the check-out aisle in the grocery stores in North America. This is not a coincidence because Time Home Entertainment published this in conjunction with Guitar World.
This book looks way better than the original publication. The big beautiful pictures are lovely to look at it, making this a far more visually appealing read. There are 18 articles, most of them quite lengthy ranging from 1988 up to 2011. The majority of the reviews are newer (relatively speaking) from post 1999 or so.
So, that is it! It is big, it's bold ...it's Metallica. This is fun to flip through, and although I don't know how mandatory it is, it is worth picking up for a few bucks.
