Motherless” is the third release from Sweden’s Trial. The group’s Sophomore release, “Vessel." was popular enough to gain attention from Metal Blade Records and were quickly signed to the legendary label that introduced the world to such Heavy Metal royalty as, Metallica and Slayer.
In this release, Trial takes the Heavy Metal blueprint and runs with it. The title track kicks of the album with some awesome epic guitars and operatic vocals that quickly get the fists pumping. Throughout the album there are several Madien-esque anthems with some fantastic guitar harmonies. Linus Johansson’s vocals are top notch here as well and round out Trail’s sound given the listener some great Epic/ Old School Metal Vibes.
My only gripe with this album is it’s lack of direction and consistency. The group plays some great face melting metal, but almost immediately follows up with a much slower track that kind of kills the listener’s vibe. “Cold Comes the Night,” bashes the listener, coming in fast, hard and heavy but is followed by, “Juxtaposed,” which is a much slower and uneven feeling track. (although Johansson’s pipes are on point as ever on this track)
Defiantly an album worth checking out especially if you are into the new modern, “Old School” sound that you hear from such bands as Holy Grail and Edguy.
