Cradle Of Filth
Cryptoriana – The Seductiveness of Decay
October 2017
Released: 2017, Nuclear Blast
Rating: 4.5/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

I cannot begin to tell you too terribly much about Cradle of Filth. Nothing that any of you reading this would not already know. I can tell you however, CRYPTORIANA – THE SEDUCTIVENESS OF DECAY in nothing short of another masterpiece by Cradle of Filth.

Not being able to spout out much info on the band in no way means I do not listen to or like their music. This being their 12th studio release, once I make it to the local record store, it will be number 9 in my collection. I have always enjoyed their music. I get a bit mesmerized when engulfing myself in their albums. The compositions and blend of extreme blackened orchestral goth metal, if that makes any sense, always leaves me thinking “Damn”! There is always so much going on within each of their songs it’s almost crazy.

So with the latest here, it is chalked full of COF greatness. Their music, vocals, and the premise of the storyline all set to be yet another classic. CRYPTORIANA - …. , is full of Victorian gothic horror. Tales of the macabre and the fascination of death, ghouls, graves, and life after make up the tale within this 52 minute opus into darkness.

COF are one of a very select few in the extreme metal realm that I have always liked. I have been listening to HAMMER OF THE WITCHES the past few weeks, (so I admit I do fall a little behind sometimes), and though it is a great album, CRYPTORIANA offers so much more. There are several more, NWOBHM areas in the tracks that were not present on the last release. Which is a good thing mind you. And a melodic haunt that can almost give one the chills.

All in all, CRYPTORIANA – THE SEDUCTIVENESS OF DEACY is a great album. There is no need for an open mind when sitting down to listen to this one, it will do it for you.
