Anubis Gate
Covered In Black
September 2017
Released: 2017, Nightmare Records
Rating: 3.5/5
Reviewer: John Haseltine

COVERED IN BLACK is the 7th release by these Danish power metallars. Having not listened to anything by them since 2005’s A PERFECT FOREVER, I am sort of stuck on how to proceed with this.

Hmmm, okay, for those new to Anubis Gate, they play a progressive blend of dark, yet ambient classic metal. With the dark and ambient leaning a bit more on this one than what I am used to. (An album that’s 12 years old) And that goes both lyrically and musically.

Anubis Gate do they genre of progressive metal very well. There’s no bullshitting you here. Just look at the label they are on. Nightmare Records is known for releasing only quality music by quality bands.

I’ll admit it. I need to do a little more homework in listening to Anubis Gate. These guys should really be more of a household name within the genre. I’m sure the European market does them quite well. Their musicianship and crafting of songs is top notch. For even the slightest of prog-matel fans, Anubis Gate is a sure win when picking up any of their music.

Anubis Gate is a band that will appeal to fans of Queensryche, Dream Theater, Circus Maximus and the likes. Standout tracks on COVERED IN BLACK include ALL!
